Smart metering and smart energy are amongst the first really large-scale IIoT applications and help to drive markets and technologies. The OMS-Group e. V. is a community of interest of associations and enterprises for smart metering applications relevant to billing. With the Open Metering System Specification, the OMS-Group has developed an open, vendor independent standard for communication interfaces and basic requirements. In the recent specifications, a novel approach has been followed to ensure modularity, interoperability, and a guaranteed future – integrating LPWAN technologies. The presentation will provide a deep-dive into the OMS specification and its novel developments.
